Teaching Activities

Portland State University

A study of engineering problems associated with the planning and design of urban and intercity transportation with emphasis on systems approach to problem definition and solution. Vehicle operational characteristics and traffic control devices for land, air, and water, data collection methods and development of transportation models for the establishment of design criteria for transportation structures.

Computation techniques in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Development of mathematical techniques to solve engineering problems. Use of statistical and graphical techniques to present engineering data. Introduction to data visualization and computer programming techniques in engineering.

This course, tailored for Civil and Environmental Engineering students, aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the foundational systems and technologies that underpin Smart Cities. By exploring the dynamic interplay between urban planning and cutting-edge technologies, students will gain valuable insights into the mechanisms that drive smart urban development and learn how to apply these innovations to foster the growth of cities.

A comprehensive understanding of econometric models commonly used in transportation, travel analytics, economics, sociology, and psychology. Students will learn to develop these models from the ground up, emphasizing a hands-on approach over reliance on pre-packaged software solutions. Key topics include data assembly, descriptive analysis, multivariate regression, and maximum likelihood estimation techniques.
